Comfortable Walking Shoes: Having a reliable pair of walking shoes is essential,  especially in Europe. During my time abroad, I often logged over 20,000 steps daily, making comfortable footwear vital.

Visa Expiration Awareness: If you plan to travel within the Schengen area after your program ends, be mindful of your visa expiration date. You’ll need to either apply for a visa extension, adjust your travel plans, or risk being fined 100 euros per day for overstaying.

Cash Preference in Germany: Germans prefer cash. Many restaurants, bars, and attractions only accept cash, so it's wise to carry extra cash if you’re heading to Germany.

Bank ATMs for Cash Withdrawals: When withdrawing cash abroad, use ATMs located within banks. They often have lower or no transaction fees compared to random street ATMs. I once encountered a 50 euro fee at a street ATM in Germany, so be cautious.

Bug Spray or Mosquito Repellent Plug-ins: Air conditioning is rare in Italy, leading to open windows and, consequently, mosquitoes. Bring bug spray or plug-in mosquito repellents to keep the pests at bay.

Credit/Debit Card with No International Fees: A card with no international fees is crucial for avoiding extra charges, especially when booking hotels, flights, or making other large purchases.

Portable Charger: If you plan to explore extensively, a portable charger is indispensable. Besides your passport, a charged phone is one of the most important things to have while traveling.

Ice Tray: This might seem unusual, but if you like cold water, bring an ice tray. Ice is a rare commodity in Europe, and having your own can be a great comfort.

Avoid Apple Stores in Europe: Apple products are often more expensive in European stores than in the US or online. I paid 97 euros for a MacBook charger in Florence, so consider alternative purchasing options.

Open Mindset: While it may sound cliché, having an open mindset will enhance your travel experience and help you connect with more people.
