The second day in London was action-packed. After striking up a conversation with some super friendly folks at my hostel the night before, we made plans to hit up the British Museum. Let me tell you, that place was mind-blowing. First off, it's free to enter, which is awesome. And secondly, the sheer number of historical artifacts housed there is just staggering. From Egyptian relics to items from Native American cultures and everything in between, it's a treasure trove of human history. One highlight for me was learning about the significance of jade to ancient Chinese civilizations—they valued it even more than gold or precious gems.
After soaking in all that history, I figured it was time to check out some of London's famous landmarks. And why not combine sightseeing with a little exercise? So, I went for a run. First stop: the London Eye. Seeing it up close was surreal, but what caught my eye (pun intended) was the Battle of Britain Monument nearby. The intricate carvings blew me away—I'm a bit of a history nerd, so I was engrossed.
Next up was Elizabeth Tower. Fun fact: a lot of folks mistakenly call it Big Ben, but the tower itself is called Elizabeth Tower—the bell inside is Big Ben. And then, off I went to Buckingham Palace. I've always been curious about the guards there, famous for standing perfectly still for hours on end. And let me tell you, they did not disappoint. Not a single flinch the whole time I watched them.
